Sophos AI Defense finds the AI tools and agents your people use, scores which activity is risky, enforces guardrails on prompts and agents, and sends AI activity into detection and response. It is an add-on for Sophos EDR, XDR, and MDR on Sophos Fusion.
In plain terms: Your staff already use ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and AI agents. AI Defense shows you which ones, what data goes into them, and lets you set rules, using the Sophos protection you already run.

Where it sees AI
AI Defense looks for AI use in three places: the browser, the endpoint, and the network. It builds on Sophos Workspace Protection, Sophos Endpoint, Sophos Firewall, and Sophos MDR, so there is no separate agent or console to roll out.
Why it matters now
Sophos cites Cloud Security Alliance research finding that 82% of organizations discovered AI tools or workflows they did not know were running, and Gartner research showing 69% of organizations suspect or have evidence that staff use prohibited public AI services. What is Sophos AI Defense?+
Sophos AI Defense is an add-on for Sophos EDR, XDR, and MDR that secures how AI is used in your organization. It discovers AI tools and agents, including shadow AI, assesses which activity is risky, enforces guardrails on prompts and agent behavior, and feeds AI activity into detection and response. It runs on Sophos Fusion.
What is shadow AI?+
Shadow AI is any AI tool or agent used at work without IT approval, such as a personal ChatGPT account or a browser extension that summarizes email. AI Defense finds it so you can decide what to allow, restrict, or block.
Does AI Defense block ChatGPT or Copilot?+
It can, but blocking everything is rarely the goal. Most organizations allow approved tools, set guardrails on what data can go into them, and block the rest. AI Defense enforces whichever policy you choose.
Do I need a separate platform or security team?+
No. AI Defense extends the Sophos protection you already have across browser, endpoint, and network. Alerts land in the same Sophos Fusion console. With Sophos MDR, Sophos analysts handle them for you.
Which Sophos products does it require?+
Sophos EDR, Sophos XDR, or Sophos MDR, with your account enabled on Sophos Fusion. It is not sold on its own.
How is Sophos AI Defense licensed and priced?+
