Description
Sophos AP6 840 Access Point, US, with 5 year support
The Sophos AP6 840 is an indoor Wi-Fi 6 access point covering 2.4 and 5 GHz, delivering up to 3,550 Mbps and managed from the Sophos cloud console alongside your firewall. This listing is the US model with 5 year of support.
Powered by 802.3at PoE+, drawing up to 25.5 W. Any 802.3at switch or injector with budget to spare will run it. Count the total draw across every powered device before choosing a switch, because the shared PoE budget runs out before the port count does.

Throughput in Mbps. The 420 is the only model with a 1 GbE uplink. The 840E is the only one needing 802.3bt PoE++. The E models add the 6 GHz band.
What to check before ordering
This model covers 2.4 and 5 GHz. If you want the less congested 6 GHz band, the E version of this model adds a third radio for it.
The 2.5 GbE uplink means a gigabit switch port becomes the bottleneck before the radios do. Pair it with a 2.5G switch to get the throughput you are paying for.
Why buy it with support
The 5 year term covers firmware updates, 24/7 phone support and advance hardware replacement for the life of the subscription. Buying the longer term up front is usually cheaper than renewing annually, and it removes a renewal date you have to remember.
Frequently asked questions
What PoE does the AP6 840 need?
802.3at PoE+. It draws up to 25.5 W at maximum. Confirm your switch or injector supports that standard and has the budget spare.
What throughput does the AP6 840 deliver?
Up to 3,550 Mbps combined: 1,150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2,400 Mbps on 5 GHz.
Do I need a wireless controller?
No. AP6 Series access points are managed from the Sophos cloud console. Note they cannot be managed from a Sophos firewall; that is the older APX series.
Is this the US or the Canadian model?
This is the US model. Sophos ships separate part numbers for each regulatory domain, so a Canadian deployment needs the Canadian part rather than this one.
What does the 5 year support cover?
5 year of Sophos support on the access point, covering firmware updates, 24/7 phone support and advance hardware replacement.
