Sophos CISO Advantage Explained

Sophos CISO Advantage is a security leadership program from Sophos. It uses AI-accelerated assessment, analysis, and reporting to measure your security posture from live data, find the gaps, build a prioritized roadmap, and produce board-ready reports. Sophos scheduled the first release for October 2026, and you can run it yourself or have a partner like Nuformat run it for you.
It answers a problem most small and mid-sized businesses know well: someone has to own security strategy, explain risk to the board, and answer the insurer's questionnaire, but a full-time CISO is not in the budget.
The work a CISO does, and who does it today
A chief information security officer spends much of their time on four jobs: working out where the business stands, deciding what to fix first, reporting progress in terms leadership understands, and proving improvement over time. In smaller organizations those jobs fall to the IT manager, an outside provider, or nobody.
A survey of 800 managed service providers, run by Vanson Bourne for Sophos in April 2026, found that on average about 46% of an MSP’s customers depend on it to act as their CISO. CISO Advantage is Sophos's attempt to give that work a structure and a data source, rather than a spreadsheet rebuilt every year.

Sophos names NIST and CIS as mapped frameworks, and also mentions NIST CSF and NIS2 in its launch material. It runs in Sophos Fusion and builds on Arco Cyber, which Sophos acquired in February 2026 for its ability to validate whether security controls are working and map them to risk and compliance frameworks.
Is it a virtual CISO?
Not on its own, and it helps to be clear about this before you buy. CISO Advantage is the program and the data: assessments, a roadmap, reports, and tracking. It does not include a named person who sits in your board meeting. Sophos designed it so the human side comes from your own team or from a service provider.

Availability and what comes next
Sophos scheduled the initial release for October 2026 and says it is rolling out in select regions. Sophos also plans Sophos CISO Advantage Plus for December 2026, adding continuous monitoring, checks on how well controls are actually working, and governance workflows.
