Fortinet Security Fabric

The Fortinet ecosystem: one Security Fabric, one console.

Fortinet is not just a firewall. It is an integrated platform called the Security Fabric, with FortiGate at the center and everything else, switches, Wi-Fi, endpoints, cloud, and security operations, sharing information and enforcing one policy. Here is how the pieces fit together.

What's included

The ecosystem, group by group.

Network firewall, the core

FortiGate and its FortiOS operating system sit at the center. Every other piece connects back to it for shared visibility and coordinated response, and it includes Secure SD-WAN and FortiProxy.

Secure networking

FortiSwitch and FortiAP access points are managed straight from the FortiGate over FortiLink, so your switches and Wi-Fi enforce the same policy as the firewall. FortiExtender adds wireless WAN for branches.

Zero trust and access

FortiClient puts a Fabric Agent on endpoints, ZTNA controls who reaches what, and FortiAuthenticator, FortiNAC, and FortiToken handle identity, device control, and multi-factor authentication.

SASE and cloud

FortiSASE extends the same protection to remote and hybrid workers, while FortiWeb protects web applications and APIs and FortiCNAPP secures cloud workloads.

Security operations

FortiAnalyzer, FortiSIEM, and FortiSOAR give you logging, correlation, and automated response, backed by FortiEDR and XDR, FortiNDR, and FortiSandbox for detection.

Management and intelligence

FortiManager runs the whole estate from one console, and FortiGuard AI-powered security services feed live threat intelligence to every component in the Fabric.

How it fits together

Integrated, not just bundled.

A pile of products from one vendor is not the same as an ecosystem. In the Security Fabric the pieces actually talk to each other, so a threat seen in one place triggers a response across the network.

  • FortiGate and FortiOS form the core, and components share telemetry over the Fabric
  • FortiSwitch and FortiAP are managed from the FortiGate itself over FortiLink
  • Fabric Connectors and APIs tie in third-party tools, so it is not a closed box
  • One console with FortiManager and one analytics layer with FortiAnalyzer across the estate
Straight answers

Fortinet ecosystem questions.

What is the Fortinet Security Fabric?

It is Fortinet's integrated platform. Instead of standalone products, FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, endpoint, and security-operations tools share information and coordinate response, all managed centrally and fed by FortiGuard threat intelligence.

Do I have to buy the whole ecosystem at once?

No. Most businesses start with a FortiGate firewall and add pieces over time, such as FortiSwitch and FortiAP for the network edge, then endpoint or SASE. Because they integrate, each addition makes the others more effective.

What is the advantage of buying networking from one vendor?

When your firewall, switches, and access points all come from Fortinet and run under FortiOS, they enforce one policy and you manage them from one place, instead of stitching multiple vendors and consoles together.

Which parts of the ecosystem does Nuformat carry?
